Partners

OriginOil’s mission is to help others make algae. We support our partners with proprietary hardware, technology, processes, best practices, training & certification, and access to 3rd party applications and services.

Our R&D Partners help us develop core technology. Our Application Partners will help create algae solutions and managed services, and can become Preferred Providers for the Regional Partner network. And, finally, our Regional Partners will be exclusive licensees for a defined geographic area. By tapping our network of Preferred Providers, they will be able to focus on sales and marketing, while the Providers and OriginOil assure quality execution and management of projects.

Result: a global industry network facilitated by OriginOil.

INL logo - pptOn 7 October 2009, OriginOil and the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced the completion of the first phase of their cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA).

“Algae represent a potential key biomass resource for a sustainable bioenergy industry,” said Tom Ulrich, INL senior advisory scientist. “Collaboration with OriginOil has been encouraging, especially the modeling of their algae growth and production process. Phase 2 of the CRADA will focus on further process validation, economic modeling and improved biomass logistics for the scale-up of algae biomass production.”

Desmet Ballestra logo2

On 5 May 2009, OriginOil announced a partnership with Desmet Ballestra, an international pioneer in oil and fats technologies, for commercializing its patent pending algae oil extraction technology.

Desmet Ballestra is a global enterprise serving the seed crushing, oil refining, oleochemical, surfactant, and detergent markets. It has operations in Egypt, Nigeria, Sudan, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, the United States, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

StrategicFit Logo_pOn 26 January 2010, OriginOil announced its partnership with StrategicFit, a London-based strategy consulting firm with world-class analytical capabilities.  The starting point for the project is the lifecycle model that OriginOil presented to the National Algae Association Quarterly Conference last September, which showed for the first time that a properly co-located industrial algae production system could be profitable and beneficial.

The partnership will focus on increasing the robustness of the core Algae Productivity Model by refining underlying assumptions and process logic.  Time sensitivity is also being added to the model, with a 20 year horizon that includes discounted cash flow variables, time for R&D and scale-up, and ROI estimates based on a waterfall analysis.  Most importantly, the model will address key applications for OriginOil’s technology, including wastewater treatment, natural gas industries, biodiesel refining, and ethanol distillation.

RITB logoOn 9 December 2009, OriginOil announced it has agreed to partner with Research Institute of Tsukuba Bio-Tech (RITB), recently approved for funding to develop algae to jet fuel applications by Japan Science & Technology Agency (JST).

“Our funders have set a priority on sustainable aircraft fuels. Together with OriginOil we will target these fuels,” said Professor Emeritus Dr. Maekawa of RITB. “We look to OriginOil for the needed technology and resources to help carry out this vast assignment.”

On 26 October 2009, OriginOil announced that as a result of its long-running collaboration with an advanced research lab at California State University, Long Beach, OriginOil has optimized its Single Step Extraction process to reach the highest industry level for algae oil extraction.

“We have been working with OriginOil for the past several months developing a method for lipid determination and we now feel that we have a very reliable method,” said Richard Gossett, Director of the Institute for Integrated Research in Materials, Environments and Societies (IIRMES), an advanced research and analytical laboratory at California State University, Long Beach. “Using this method, we have tested OriginOil’s Single-Step Extraction process with excellent results.”
