Because each nutrient particle has been broken down into many parts, the surfaces entering in contact with the algae cells have been multiplied many times over, creating a quantum environment for algae growth.

Paul Reep, Senior Technical Advisor

With more than 25 years of senior management experience in the high tech industry, Paul Reep has a proven ability for facilitating government and private sector partnerships, including a major multi-agency technology transfer initiative with the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Interior, Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency. The result of this work is still ongoing at the Department of Energy, where bio-energy is a key mission area. He currently is a member of the licensing team at the Stevens Institute for Innovation at the University of Southern California, where he works directly alongside researchers and scientists to identify and develop patent and licensing opportunities for USC inventions.

Reep’s achievements span decades and he has a number of firsts in the technology arena. For Applied DNA Sciences, he developed the first DNA microchip that received national and international awards for Best New Security technology. As Founder and CEO of Milestone Technology, Inc., he created the world’s first mobile, combine-harvester-mounted near-infrared cereal grain analyzer, and secured the exclusive license for a walk-through concealed weapons detection portal technology which was showcased at the Northrop-Grumman Security Exposition in Washington D.C.

In his role of Technology Program Director, and manager of Environmental Engineering at the Department of Energy’s National Environmental and Engineering Laboratory (INEEL), Reep was responsible for the geophysical characterization of an 840 square mile government reservation and the investigation of alternative technologies to be used to close defense and nuclear-related projects to meet RCPA, EPA, State and Federal mandated milestones.

As a program manager for Lockheed Martin, Reep led the Measurement Engineering Business Unit that developed sensor and control systems for numerous government agency programs. During his tenure at Lockheed, Reep also spearheaded an initiative for the DOE’s National Environmental and Engineering Laboratory aimed at conversion of defense and energy-related technologies to strengthen the international competitiveness of the U.S. agriculture industry. The theme of this major multi-agency technology transfer initiative continues today with NASA and DOE committees on alternative fuels programs.

Reep’s technical background includes alternative energy, precision farming, and magnetohydrodynamics. He has held several governmental advisory positions including the White House National Science and Technology Council, which focused on environmental sustainability and alternative fuels development; the Presidential Business Advisory Council and the Department of Homeland Security.  He has advised the National Academy of Sciences on policy issues and has been nominated for an appointment to the Secretary of Agriculture – Policy Advisory Committee for Trade.

His early career includes extensive technological achievements at the Illinois Power Company, Mountain States Energy, Inc., Atomics International (Rockwell) and Lockheed Development Center. He is widely published, has numerous patents and is conversant in Japanese, German, and some French and Spanish.
