Overview
Department of Energy – Idaho National Laboratory
OriginOil and the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) on 17 February 2009. Phase 1 was completed on 7 October 2009, with Phase 2 and Phase 3 currently under design. OriginOil is collaborating with the DOE regarding the development of a blendable algae feedstock standard.
“Algae represent a potential key biomass resource for a sustainable bioenergy industry,” said Tom Ulrich, INL senior advisory scientist. “Collaboration with OriginOil has been encouraging, especially the modeling of their algae growth and production process. Phase 2 of the CRADA will focus on further process validation, economic modeling and improved biomass logistics for the scale-up of algae biomass production.”
MBD Energy Limited
OriginOil is currently supplying MBD Energy, an Australian company, with its Quantum Fracturing™ and Single-Step Extraction™ systems under a multi-phase commercialization program to utilize algal biomass for carbon capture at three power station projects in Australia. Anglo American, one of the world’s largest mining companies, is a cornerstone investor in MBD Energy. The research phase of the multi-year master agreement has been completed and MBD is now provisioning its first power plant project, with OriginOil as an embedded strategic partner.
Desmet Ballestra
On 5 May 2009, OriginOil announced a partnership with Desmet Ballestra. Based in Belgium, Desmet Ballestra is an international leader in the manufacture and distribution of oil and fat processing equipment, with more than $500M in annual sales. The parties are operating under a signed Memorandum of Understanding for Desmet to manufacture and distribute OriginOil’s components and systems in its 26 markets worldwide.
Ennesys
On 11 May 2011, OriginOil announced a joint venture with UK-based incubator PJC to form Ennesys, a system integrator focused on algae production to meet The European Union’s environmental regulations.
France in particular has mandated that all major buildings achieve a positive energy balance by the year 2020. Ennesys is working with Global 500 clients such as Bouygues Construction to evaluate the integration of waste water algae production as a means to comply with these new green building standards.
Pure Technology
OriginOil is a pure technology company. We plan to embed our breakthrough technology into the industrial algae systems that others build, distribute and operate.
Algae is the logical successor to petroleum and has added potential in nutrition and pharmaceuticals. Algae will be produced everywhere CO2 is generated – making it a truly distributed source of energy.
The world will make algae. How will we deliver our technology to the world? The answer is to integrate our technology with the systems others build and distribute.
“Powered By OriginOil”
Large manufacturers, distributors and engineering service companies will gear up to serve the world’s algae producers and refiners. Many already serve today’s petroleum industry.
We’ll make our breakthrough technology available everywhere these companies operate by embedding our technology in the systems they sell. We won’t have to spend the time and money to develop our own manufacturing and distribution infrastructure. And we’ll avoid competing with our natural partners, creating a much better chance that our technology will become widely used – and profitably licensed.
Naturally, before you can embed a technology, you have to prove it. That’s why OriginOil is working with strategic partners who will help scale up its technology and prove it in the field.
